Y’all think your professors are salty or petty? My freshman year my intro to anthropology prof overheard some dudebro say some homophobic shit and altered the entire semester’s plan to accommodate three new lectures about homophobia and gender identity and presentation in various cultures. This is to say three ADDITIONAL lectures to go with the one she already have planned.

Important addition: She changed the wallpaper on her computer to a picture her with her wife and two kids. So the first thing we saw when we came into class every day for the remainder of the semester was basically their christmas card

That ain’t salty, that’s her being my hero

scarjo dropped out of rub & tug but please remember that that doesn’t make her a good person. she still auditioned for that role, she still took it, and the only reason she dropped it is because she couldn’t handle facing the consequences of her transphobic actions.

Concerning yourself with whether a celebrity you don’t know is or is not a “good person” in their hearts is a distraction from targeting discriminatory behavior that actually matters. What matters is Hollywood’s actual actions, and public outcry spearheaded by trans people resulted in a positive action here – if it was just “caving to public pressure”… good! That’s what the point of the public pressure was! Reward good behavior, punish bad behavior, and don’t waste time worrying about how celebrities really feel in their hearts.

It’s possible she’s actually learned. It’s also possible she hasn’t, but wasn’t allowed to get away with it. I don’t care which as long as she doesn’t do it again.

Exactly! The whole POINT of public pressure is to generate change – to then judge that change on the person’s purity of heart is pointless.

If the lesson here is “you fucked something up, you apologize, you don’t do it again, and your career isn’t (badly) damaged,” that’s good.

If the lesson here is “you fucked up, you apologized, you don’t do it again, but no one cares and people hate you personally forever and ever,” then there’s no point in dropping out of projects like this. Once the damage is done, they might as well continue on because people will hold it against you anyway.

You should WANT people to change. That’s the goal.

(And let’s not forget the shitty white man, Rupert Sanders, who cast her as a transman, and ALSO as an asian woman.)

Don’t know enough about the context, but I agree with the sentiment – we should celebrate good changes and not try to strive for everyone perfectly agreeing with our ideals.

Plot Bunnies, Plot Chickens, Etc.

gallagherwitt:

As a lot of people aren’t familiar with plot creatures, I thought I’d shed some light on the members of the mental menagerie…

The Plot Bunny – Story ideas that come bounding in and start multiplying.

The Plot Chicken – They squawk, flap around, and shit everywhere, but
when you actually need to do something with them, they scatter.

The Plot Sloth – Takes its sweet goddamned time turning into something useful.

The Plot Mule – When you mash two plots together and get something
cool, but you can’t get a sequel out of it to save your life.

The
Plot Cat – Lazy little bastards who take up your headspace, scare away
all the other plot bunnies, but won’t actually do anything except lay
there.

The Plottweiler – Barks loudly and viciously so you can’t
ignore it, distracts you from everything else you want to write, but
leaves you too paralyzed with fear to actually put words down.

The Plot Squirrel – Cute, distracting, full of nuts, and just TRY to keep up with that train of thought.

The Plot Bedbug – Shows up during the night, chews on you so you can’t sleep, and disappears in the daylight.

The Plot Tick – Burrows in, bleeds you dry, and leaves you with the creepy-crawlies. Mostly preys on horror writers.

The Plotroach – Totally unappealing, but so tenacious they’ll survive anything until you finally give up and write them.

What Plot Creatures have you encountered?
